Why would I use Turnout Gear Lockers instead of regular lockers?
Turnout Gear Lockers provide more room for the larger equipment and clothing that people like fire fighters, police officers and athletes typically use. They offer increased ventilation, multiple lockable storage compartments and a variety of mounting options.

What options are available?
A variety of options are available to customize your lockers to best suit your individual requirements. The most popular options are:

Do I need a base under the Turnout Gear lockers?
We typically encourage the use of some type of base under the lockers for several reasons. First, when cleaning the floors around the lockers it would be better to have a broom or wet mop brush against a less expensive base (wood or plastic wood) as opposed to rubbing against metal which could eventually chip and scratch (kick-in base). Second, elevating the units off the ground offers protection against water on the floor from washdown, minor flooding, etc. Of course, if your lockers are not going to be around areas that will have wet floors, don't worry about bases!
Leg and Base Types
- Standard legs - Turnout Gear lockers typically ship with 6" legs standard. This elevates the lockers off the floor and creates a neater appearance. It also prevents the locker contents from getting wet or damaged in case of minor flooding, or simply mopping the locker room floor.
- No legs - Ordering the lockers without legs and putting them directly on the floor has its appearance qualities also, if moisture isn't as much of a problem in your area.
- Kick-panel Bases - These metal bases are the easiest to install and cost the least. The one drawback to these bases is that they are metal and can get scratched if someone brushes the metal with a broom frame. They will also be more prone to rust if a wet mop is constantly brushed against them.
- Plastic Wood - We highly recommend the use of a plastic wood base. It is reasonably priced, and offers one key benefit: No rust. Constant water on the ground can rust out a metal base and rot out a wood base. We don't use any special type of plastic lumber so if you have a local source for it we encourage you to save the money it would take to ship it from F.O.B. Hauppauge, NY. You can also use standard lumber for an even less expensive option.
- Cantilevered - This option is actually most popular in locations that we install the Turnout Gear lockers with our crews. For this type of installation, we mount heavy duty slotted angle on a concrete block wall and then cantilever the lockers so they are 4" - 6" above the floor. If you choose to install your lockers like this it is by far the cheapest base method, HOWEVER, 3, 4, 5 wide sections of assembled Turnout Gear lockers are HEAVY; upwards of 400 lbs. Maximum care must be taken when installing lockers elevated with no base.
- Mobile dollies - Some fire houses prefer the use of mobile dollies for the lockers. In this case no base is required - but we do recommend no less than 3 lockers together on a mobile dolly for stability.

What is the typical lead time for delivery?
Lockers are a very seasonal item. In the summer (when schools across the country want lockers installed) lead times are usually in the 6-10 week range, but have been known to balloon out to the 8-12 week range. November through May typically brings lead times back to the 4-6 week range.

How are freight charges handled?
Freight charges are added to the material cost. Using the total weight of the order and your zip code, we calculate a firm shipping price. We have distribution centers throughout the country (Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas and California) so freight charges are kept within very reasonable limits.

What payment options are available?
Typically we require a 50% deposit either by credit card or check. The remaining balance is due upon receipt of the material. These terms are for first time orders. Subsequent orders can usually be handled without the deposit.

How difficult is assembly and installation?
The lockers are shipped KD (knocked down) in boxes broken into components such as: sides, tops, bottoms, backs, shelves, hooks, etc. They are constructed using nuts and bolts that fit into pre-punched holes so that the finished product is a section of 2-5 lockers. Typically, it has taken other fire houses less than an hour to assemble a 5 locker section. Take a look at our Assembly Instructions for more information on locker assembly.
Firefighters are "hands-on" type people with plenty of mechanical ability. We have a lot of confidence that you can construct these lockers.
We are working on an installation video that we can send to people to make assembly and installation even easier.
